Some of you may not know that I published The Chippy Tour Chippy Recipes in 2024, during the early days of The Chippy Tour.

The idea came from people watching from other countries who were curious about British chippy food but could not find many of the dishes where they lived. I was also hearing from people in different parts of the UK who could not buy certain regional favourites from their own local fish and chip shops.

 

The book was created for home cooks who wanted to have a go at making some of those familiar, unusual and regional chippy foods for themselves. It contains more than 70 recipes, including different batters, fish, chips, puddings, sauces, gravies, seafood dishes and plenty of other chip shop favourites.

 

These are my own home recipes and interpretations. They are not copied from any particular business, and the book is certainly not intended to compete with professional fish fryers or suggest that there is only one correct way of making these foods. Every fish and chip shop has its own methods, recipes and traditions, and that individuality is one of the things I appreciate most about the industry.

 

Since the book was first published, I have travelled much farther with The Chippy Tour and visited many more fish and chip shops across the country. Along the way, I have discovered new regional specialities, unusual menu items, different cooking traditions and plenty of fascinating things about British chippy food that I did not know when I wrote the original book.

 

As a result, I now have a growing collection of new recipes, ideas and stories, so I fully expect there will be another book at some point, reflecting everything I have discovered since the original was published. I also plan to explore some of the ingredients and products I have come across through my travels and my growing involvement with the fish and chip industry.

 

The Chippy Tour Chippy Recipes is for anyone who loves British chippy food, particularly those who cannot always find their favourite dishes close to home, or who simply fancy having a go at making them for themselves.

 

And, just as importantly, proceeds from the book go straight back into The Chippy Tour, helping me to continue travelling around the country, visiting, promoting and supporting our much loved fish and chip shops.
