Some of you may not know that I published The Chippy Tour Chippy Recipes in 2024, during the early days of The Chippy Tour. The idea came from people watching from other countries who were curious about British chippy food but simply couldn't find many of the dishes where they lived. I also heard from people across the UK who couldn't get certain regional favourites from their local fish and chip shops. So I put together a book for home cooks who wanted to try making some of those familiar, unusual, regional chippy foods for themselves.

 

The Chippy Tour Chippy Recipes contains more than 70 recipes, covering different batters, fish, chips, puddings, sauces, gravies, seafood dishes and plenty of other chip shop favourites. These are my own home recipes and interpretations. They are not copied from any particular fish and chip shop, and the book is certainly not intended to compete with professional fish fryers or suggest there is only one correct way to make these foods. Every fish and chip shop has its own methods, recipes and traditions, and that individuality is one of the things I appreciate most about the industry.

 

Since publishing the book, I have travelled much farther with The Chippy Tour and visited hundreds more fish and chip shops around the country. Along the way, I have discovered regional specialities, unusual menu items, different cooking traditions and plenty of fascinating things about British chippy food that I simply did not know when I wrote the original book. As a result, I now have a growing collection of new recipes, ideas and stories, and I fully expect there will be another book in the future reflecting everything I have discovered since the original was published. I also hope to explore some of the ingredients and products I have come across through my travels and my growing involvement with the fish and chip industry.

The Chippy Tour Chippy Recipes is for anyone who loves British chippy food, particularly those who cannot always find their favourite dishes close to home, or who simply fancy having a go at making them for themselves. And, just as importantly, proceeds from the book go straight back into The Chippy Tour, helping me to continue travelling around the country, visiting, promoting and supporting our much loved fish and chip shops.
